Golden Mile of Nathan Road

Given that Nathan Road in Kowloon is one of the longer roads and many miles long one can wonder where it’s nickname, now less used but still remembered, came from.

Traveling a full mile from the where Nathan Road starts just inland from the Victoria Harbour and behind the famous Peninsula Hotel and takes you through the touristy parts of Tsim Sha Tsui and beyond into the more local shopping area of Jordan and almost to Yau Ma Ta.   In fact by coincidence the one mile of Nathan Road leads you to The Nathan Hotel, which despite the name, is not particularly convenient despite being on Nathan Road itself.

These days you will not hear the Gold Mile name used for any part of Nathan Road except by those in the tourist industry, or those explaining what it means as here.

The one remaining item still known as Golden Mile is actually the Holiday Inn Golden Mile hotel, which was named when Nathan Road was still famous for it's first "Golden mile of shopping".  But now good shopping, of different types, is available for the entire stretch of our road.

FOOD AND DINING

If you are eating around Nathan Road then you have one of the largest ranges of ethic choices of food in any part of Hong Kong.   Because of the large population from Inda and Pakistan in the district, together with a growing African contingent, the Nathan Road area in Tsim Sha Tsui has plenty of curry houses and african restaurants.
